Tammy Rogers has been playing fiddle since she was a child. The daughter of bluegrass musicians, she trained classically as a teenager, won a full scholarship to Southern Methodist University, and has a degree in performance from Belmont University. Her talents range across the board, from her instrumental prowess (in styles from bluegrass to Celtic to classical) to singing and songwriting.

Born in Tennessee but raised in a Dallas suburb, she began her post-college Nashville career when she joined Patty Loveless' backing band, and drew lots of attention with a subsequent gig in Trisha Yearwood's band. She also toured with such artists as Vince Gill, Emmylou Harris, Randy Travis, Maria McKee and Rosie Flores--consistently racking up good reviews in the process.

Her road work led her to being an in-demand studio musician, and she has recorded with Peter Case, Iris Dement (cool--my other favorite female singer!), Neil Diamond, Radney Foster, Jimmie Dale Gilmore, Wynonna, Jim Lauderdale, Danni Leigh, Buddy and Julie Miller, Randy Scruggs, and many of the same artists with whom she has toured--including Kieran Kane on his last Atlantic record. She took the job with Kieran despite having the ability to make more money elsewhere, because she wanted to be a part of the kind of art Kieran and his circle were producing. This decision led her to become a part of Dead Reckoning early in its formation, and she’s released three albums for the label: In the Red, Tammy Rogers, and Speed of Love.

She wrote most of the songs on her three albums, as well as Terri Clark's hit "A Little Gasoline," and can write and perform in virtually any genre of music. Her "Pearl Earrings" is a standout on the A Night of Reckoning album (which features all the Dead Reckoners performing together)--its lyrical structure and minor key composition are a perfect modernization of the old English folk ballad style--a great song that merits repeated playing!

She recently contributed to the soundtrack to the film Songcatcher.
